Grimmel is fuelled by the marked bearers who share Halkenburg's will, and the arrow swaps the target's soul with one of them chosen at random — the allied consciousness taking control of the enemy body. Sumidori is the one drawn: his soul lands in Shikaku's body, Halkenburg experiments with the relationship between the two consciousnesses, and then uses the possessed body to simulate Shikaku's suicide. The follower whose loyalty powers the weapon is the one it spends.
